First Project

Destine to Write From the Heart, is a new beginning for me. The title of this book has been changed three different times. It was originally named, From the Heart. Every time I had some free time I was always writing something. Even thought, I hated writing, something was compelling me to write. I just gave in and said I was destine to write, so I change the title to the book, "Destine to Write." Then I changed the title again to, "Destine to Write, From the Heart." The last change I made was adding, A New Beginning, because it was a new beginning for me in more ways than one.

One of my cousins came out to Colorado with her church and I met her at the hotel and gave her some of my work to read. When she finished reading it and gave it back to me I was surprised at her comment. She said, "She cried that hold night and it was the saddest thing she ever read." I was amazed at her comment because it was about my life. I knew at this point I had a special talent.

A lady from Missouri, I never met, published some of my poems in her local newspaper it surprised and humbled me. It seemed like everyone from that little town wrote and sent me something. I was surprised on evening when I came back from the field that I had hundreds of letters and several care packages that I shared with my troops. It was crazy. Thank you for your kindness and your love, that you all showed us when we were in the Gulf.

I don't know why I started writing, but for a very long while I hated writing until that lonely night in the desert of Saudi Arabia. I think this is what God desires me to do. As you read this book, you will go on a short journey with me. You will experience the good, the bad, the sad, and the ugly. Destine to Write From the Heart, A New Beginning will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. It will take you on a journey you will never forget. It consists of poetry, short stories, and skits. I open up my heart to you with my work. This is just the beginning.

What have I learned from this first book experience?

   1) Manage my time wiser.

   2) Look for better ways to let people know about my book, do an interview or maybe a reading.

   3)  Send out announcement in advance.

   4)  Look into having people purchase book on line.

   5)  Try and get updates weekly to find out what stage on printing or editing is in.

   6) The best part about self publishing is hearing others comment on your book. Learn to take the

       good with bad.
